Scenes from Everyday Life
8 Feb 2013
I make no secret of the fact that I am really in love with the everyday. It’s a big part of the reason why I blog. It’s the whole reason why I do Project Life. And it’s a big part of my writing life too. These past few weeks have been so much fun, and I wanted to share some pictures of our everyday shenanigans. I used this rainbow chard to make an Ottolenghi dish that was so astoundingly good that we ate it all before I took any pictures. So I will have to make it again. And I have no problem with that.
I got my Caltech library card renewed, so I have been spending my afternoons working there, and it is heavenly. Wherever it smells like books, that’s where I want to be. They have these awesome water bottle fillers there, and I am very enamored of them. Green, convenient, and ice cold. That’s just how I like it.
Sometimes when I get too exhausted to process information anymore, I go for tea and read something for fun. Going to Peets makes me miss my Dad, but it also makes it more special every time I go there. Last time they gave me this enormous cup for tea, and that felt about right. Delicious Earl Grey, you have my heart forever.
Last weekend I came into the living room and found Eric curled up with a book on the couch. This made me so happy. It’s a hectic month for him, and I’m so glad to see him taking a little break.
This week I went to meet Eric for lunch at Chandler for the first time ever. It was warm enough to sit outside, and we shared an enormous Thai curry. It was awesomely economical.
Near the cafe I found the remains of this sledding hill. Oh, California!
And I stopped by the turtle pond to say good afternoon to my reptile friends.
Today Eric asked if I wanted to meet him in the library for a work date. Of course! We sat at either end of this enormous table, sunlight drenching us from the windows. After an hour or so, we were both so tired. “I’m sleepy,” I said, “I want to take a nap under this table.” “Me too,” he said, “We should have brought a blanket. We could have made a tent.” Oh my goodness, I love him so.

I love this. All of your words and photos makes me realize I really need to slow down and notice more everyday things. Whenever I see that table at Peets, it reminds me of the good times we had there.

And me too! Thanks for always being my coffee companion!

When did we all get too big to make a table tent out of a blanket? It’s the perfect hide-away to escape from the pressures of the day and just let the mind run free.

I agree! More blanket forts in 2013!

Your reptile friends appear to be giving you the cold shoulder.

They are always pretty aloof. I’ve learned not to take it personally!

I knew I had to comment once I saw those turtles. All kinds of small animals are awesome, but tiny turtles are definetly in the top ten. Lucky you for having seen them!

Thank you! They are actually part of Caltech’s campus as a permanent fixture. And they are always so charming! I like going to visit them, even if I’m not allowed to pet them.

Thank you! I do have a Kindle, and it is handy, but nothing beats a library full of books!
